1000th Bride!!!!

With just a few weeks to go until we celebrate our 6th Anniversary I am happy to announce that we have sold our 1000th wedding gown this past Saturday. We had decided a few months ago that the 1000th bride to purchase her dress would get the ultimate gift of her gown on the house! I did not think that Saturday was going to be the day but we had a really busy day and I started getting so excited as each dress sold got us closer and closer to 1,000. At the end of the day we surprised a lucky bride with the news. She was over the moon with excitement as were all of us!

It's amazing to look back and think that we have been included in such a huge moment in a woman's life. Choosing your wedding gown is something that, I have learned, you just never forget. So thank you to all the brides who have blessed our lives and we look forward to many many more brides in the future!

Congratulations Jen! I am so excited for you and hope this adds that much more to such a special time in your life!!!

It's Spring Time!

I love spring, I love the smell of it, the days when you can begin to feel the warmth of the sun again, the spotting of the first robins and the first worms! Spring is all about new beginnings and new growth and we are keeping up with the season around here. We have so many new things happening around here.

The first and most exciting is that we have expanded our store so that we now have a dedicated area for Alterations. So they now happen right here everyday that we are here. Our fabulous seamstress Paulita came to us looking for a new beginning and when we discussed expanding so that we could have an alterations department her enthusiasm and excitement just put us over the edge on making the decision. So if you still need to make your appointment to have your wedding gown or bridesmaids dress altered you can call her directly at 248-714-5698. She also does outside alterations so even if you didn't buy your dress from us you can still come in for alterations.

We also picked up a new line to feature in the store. We are going to be adding Enzoani bridal gowns to our list of fabulous designers! The dresses are just beautiful and what really sold me are all of the options you get with them! We have quite the reputation for being able to customize wedding gowns so in looking for a new line I only wanted to work with a designer that was willing to make changes to their gowns and once I had been turned on to Enzoani I couldn't turn them off! I think their gowns are so gorgeous and have such a couture feel! I can't wait for you all to see them. I will let you know when I nail down a Trunk show date.

Amazing right?! And the best part is that all of the belts are interchangeable and can easily be worn again! I had a few of them on yesterday while I was trying to decide which dresses to order!

The Third exciting piece of news I have is that Gina's Bridal has been chosen to host the Fall 2011 Anjolique gowns for the next month. We are the only store in the Country who has this opportunity! These gowns will not be revealed to other stores until Bridal Market in April! So if you want to get a first look at these beautiful dresses book an appointment right away! They are only here for a limited time. I promise I will upload some images when I receive them.

So as you can see we are BUSY around here and to top it off Bridal Season is right around the corner! Time flies when you're having fun right?!

Bouquet Alternatives

Today I received an email from one of our brides with photos of her looking amazing in her gown. Robyn is a jewelry artist and made all her own jewelry for the wedding and then commisioned a local glass blower to make her bouquet and the bridesmaids bouquets! How cool is that?! I was so inspired by this I decided to look into some other bouquet alternatives to flowers.

Some other bouquet alternatives. The top three are all from Etsy.com From the left: a hand cut paper bouquet, a felt bouquet and a fabric rose bouquet. The bottom three consist of Felt and Buttons, A crystal and wire bouquet in the shape of a heart and a vintage brooch bouquet.

And of course you know my absolute favorite ladies from Emplume make the most fabulous non-floral bouquets. The bouquet on the left is the bouquet from my wedding! The center bouquet is made with the most beautiful Champagne colored feathers and the far right photo is from a vegan wedding made from all recycled paper!

...that's the tag line for an Etsy.com store called ToyBreaker, and that is one true statement. In our world we don't focus too much on the boys, which they very graciously understand. However, when I saw these ties I just had to share them with all of our brides.
Cyberoptix Tie Lab is a Detroit based company makes custom ties to suit just about any color palette or theme. And they are super reasonable. If you are looking for ties for your groomsmen check out this site.

So they say the first step is admitting you have a problem...so here it is I am addicted to Etsy. haha! Seriously though I LOVE this website. First of all I love the quality of everything I have ever ordered from there and secondly I love being able to support USA artisans. Etsy.com rocks. If you haven't been on it you should check it out but beware because you will get hooked!

Anyway while I was crusing on Etsy today I found these really cute collar stays. Now I am sure you are thinking Who cares about collar stays? But most of our hubby's or hubby's-to-be have to go to work in business attire which means if you are anything like me everytime you do the laundry you find these things in the dryer! Well these super adorable collar stays can have a special message put on them. How cute would it be to secretly put these in your guys shirt and let him find them, or because our better halves are not always that observant, you could slip a note somewhere he would find it and tell him there is a secret under his collar. I love it! I am totally going to order these for my husband.

Feeling Blue....

With Wedding Season in full swing I am sure many of you are thinking about those last minute items. Like bridesmaids gifts, your accessories and the traditional Something Old, Something New, Something Borrowed, Something Blue...So as a little inspiration of what you could do to add some blue into your wedding day, I picked a few photos to start your thinking.

But first I know you might be wondering "what is the significance of the Something Blue?"

Photos from the Vegan Chic wedding!

A few weeks ago I blogged about a Vegan wedding I was helping my good friend Shannon from Emplume with and I wanted to share a few of the photos I took. I took these with my phone so I am sorry that the quality isn't the greatest.

These were the centerpieces on all the tables. All the paper used was recycled paper and the base you see under the vase was a slice of wood from a tree.

The cans on the tables had tea lights in them to light up the hole punched table numbers and different designs each one of them had. The brides grandfather made each one of these by hand. I think she told me it took him almost 3 months to do all of them!

It really was so fascinating to me to spend the day with not only such nice and caring people. But people who are so environmentally and socially conscious. I learned what a huge responsibility Kim and her Husband Tom take on by being Vegan. I really had no idea all that it involved. Thank you both for allowing me to be a part of your wedding day. It truly was a unique and memorable experience and thank you for all that you do to make the world a happier and more beautiful place.

So since of of my best friends got engaged I have been a little wedding obsessed (yes even more than normal!) and I have been looking for inspiration to share with her for her destination wedding. When she told me she was thinking of the color Coral for the bridesmaids I immediately hit Google images for wedding inspiration in that color and stumbled upon this great website that I thought would be really helpful to our brides. It's call The Perfect Palette and they have some really fun and unique color combinations as well as lots of inspiration photos. So if you're having a hard time coming up with a color combination or just need some help visualizing the colors you're thinking together go to this blog, trust me you won't be disappointed!

Vegan Chic!!!

A few weeks ago my dear friend Shannon of Emplume asked me to help her with her brother in law and soon to be sister in law's wedding. The couple are Vegan's so all the decor, favors and even the wedding dress are made from eco-friendly products. I even got to sample some Vegan beer last night...it was pretty tasty! When I got to Shannon's house yesterday I was stunned at all of the beautiful things she had put together. The bouquet is amazing, made out of all recycled paper.

I had no idea what to expect but leave it to Shannon to be able to make just about anything into something Fabulous! I am really looking forward to seeing how it all comes together on Friday and to post some more pictures...hopefully I can snap a few shots of the bride in her custom made Hemp wedding gown!

Cherie and Nathan are Married!

Ok so this story is straight out of a movie....A year ago we had a bride by the name of Amy and she had a lovely sister named Cherie. Amy was marrying a very nice Aussie named Mark and who had a brother named Nathan. Cherie and Nathan were the maid of honor and best man at their siblings weddings. Well needless to say they hit it off! So Cherie took a trip to visit her sister at her new home in Australia and also got a chance to spend some more time with Nathan. Within 6 months of their first meeting they were engaged and I was so excited when she came in to purchase her wedding gown from us! And in December (almost 1 year exactly from their first encounter) they tied the knot! So my sister brides married brother's...How fun is that!?! But I am back now...It really has been a crazy month! First of all the Bridal Show was a huge success. You can see some of the photos from the day on our Facebook page. I am looking forward to a bigger and even better show next year! Then I got to spend last weekend in the Windy City for Bridal Market! It was, as always, so fun to see all of the latest and greatest in Bridal Fashions. As I expected we saw lots of one shoulder gowns, flower accents and lots of color. And when I talk about color I am not talking about bridesmaids dresses I am talking about bridal gowns. Pink is the new white! We saw lots of wedding gowns in various shades of pink and champagnes. I am excited for the new pieces to hit the store (which will be around the end of summer) so all you 2011 brides, hold on to your veils because the new dresses are GORGEOUS!

So I promise I will post some more, I have some new brides photos to share so stay tuned! ;-)

I loved so many things about my wedding day. It was truly the best day of my life!
But one of the things that stands out is that my husband and I sang a duet. We each sang our part as we were walking down the seating tiers to the stage. It was a surprise to our guests, so everyone was clapping for us and watching, and it was a lot of fun. Also, my dress turned out perfect. I added a purple sash for the reception, and had the champagne colored one that came with the dress for the ceremony. The buttons all the way down the back were so beautiful, and I ended up with a French-type bustle, which looked nice.

Starting Monday August 24th we are having a huge accessories Trunk Show!

Laura Jayne is the designer we will be featuring. It is a line we have never carried in our store. I saw one of her ads in a magazine and at that time was looking for a new accessories line. I checked out her website and was a little underwhelmed but I decided to give her a call. Low and behold I got to speak to Laura herself and we started chatting and it seemed like we could work really well together. After talking a few times we decided to book a trunk show to see how we liked the line. Well, let me tell you, the box arrived today and the pieces are extraordinary! I am so pleased with this line, the quality and the price, I cannot even tell you.

If you are looking for some amazing accessories we have Jewelry, Veils, Headbands, Hairpins and a ton more! You are definitely going to want to stop in for this one. Like I said it starts on Monday August 24th and runs thru the 29th. Appointments would be strongly recommended.

I had the pleasure this weekend of working with Alexis and Nate. Even though the weather wasn't cooperating, Alexis looked amazing and remained calm throughout. Alexis choose a
Bari Jay dress that we ordered in Ivory and a Bird Cage Veil. She looked absolutely Timeless. We also had the pleasure of dressing the groomsmen in their Chocolate Brown Tuxedos. As a gift to the groomsmen Nate purchased brown Chuck Taylor's for them all to wear instead of the traditional dress shoes. Loved it! Allison: What was your favorite part of your wedding?

I have a couple favorite parts. I really loved the wedding ceremony itself. We got married at the Catholic church I have gone to all my life, and the priest that married us is the same one that baptized me when I was a baby and gave me my First Communion. The ceremony itself was beautiful, and I couldn't have asked for a better way to become Mrs. Waltz.

I also loved being able to spend my wedding day with my Maid-of-Honor, Kerry, who moved to Delaware, as you well know. It was such a bittersweet day in that respect, because she and Bryan drove away to move the very next morning and it's so strange that I haven't seen her since my wedding day.

Overall though, of course the very best part was marrying Greg and vowing to love and remain faithful to each other in front of God and our family and friends.

Thank you so much for being part of my special day, and for always being so welcoming and warm through this entire process! It really meant a lot, and I always tell newly engaged girls to go to your store. See you soon!!

We will have our normal business hours on Thursday 11 - 8 Friday 11 -5 and Saturday 11 - 5. So make sure you call ahead or email me to make an appointment if you want to come in on a Monday, Tuesday or a Wednesday.

This is a trial thing that we are doing and if it works out well we may continue to do it.

A few weeks ago I had the pleasure of doing makeup for one of our brides, Sara, and she told me about the cutest idea that I just had to share with all of you. At the reception they put self addressed post cards at each persons place setting asking them to write down their well wishes and favorite moments from the wedding so that when they got home from their honeymoon they would have a mailbox full of all of their friends and families memories and words of advice. I think this is such an neat, inexpensive thing to do!

Our wedding day was the most amazing and special day of my life. There were more memorable moments than I can even count! There is not only one thing that sticks out as my favorite part of our wedding, but numerous. I think the ceremony when Brandon and I said our vows to each other and made the promise to love each other for the rest of our lives was definitely the most special. After all, that is what it is all about right? Everything about our day was perfect and I would live it over and over if it was possible. Becoming Brandon's wife was the best part for me, and all the celebrating with our two families made the night memorable. All my dreams came true on our wedding day and I wouldn't change anything for the world!

To be honest, it was probably the photobooth! Our guests loved it, and it was so nice to jump in and get some great candid shots. It was the best money I spent!

But if I get sentimental, I would have to say the choir at the church. We had the high school choir come and sing a song that Billy and I sang on the choir trip where we met 10 years ago. It was the one thing to make me cry, because it represented our beginning.

You have put your blood, sweat and tears into planning this wedding. Once the reception comes you should be able to let your hair down and party! Yesterday one of my brides, Tracy, emailed me asking if I had any ideas for Ring Bearer Pillow alternatives. So I thought I would share with everyone some different and really cute ideas for your ring bearer.

I love the idea of 2 children, could be two boys, two girls or a boy and a girl carrying a sign like this that says "Here comes the bride" and then I thought it would be super cute to have the other side say "Just Married" and let them walk ahead of you as you walk back down the aisle after the ceremony.

You could do it Banner Style like this one or a wooden sign.

You can have signs custom made on Etsy.com

These are called Ring Orbs. They look like a little ball and they come in many colors with your choice of many different sayings inside. This is a great idea because you can use it to hold your rings at home when you are not wearing them. These can be found at Everyday Artifact

This isn't the most original idea but a Treasure chest ring box is cute and will ensure that your rings stay in place

I like this one for the "Lucky in Love" couple. It's something easy for little hands to hold and not breakable!

We had one of our brides get one of these Pewter rings and she changed the ribbon to her wedding colors. I thought this was beautiful and would be really pretty hung on a wall afterwards. The ring says "An unbroken & neverending circle symbolizes a commitment of love that is never ending"

This cute Ring Bowl can be made in a variety of colors with different sayings on the inside. This one would make a great ornament afterwards or just a nice piece to keep your rings on.

After my wedding was over I was just dying to plan another event. So pretty much as soon as I found out that my sister Andrea was pregnant, we began planning her baby shower and I wanted to share some of the photos with you all. Our theme was "Mommy's Nesting" but if you wanted to do something with a nest theme for a wedding shower you could do a "Love Birds" theme.

A Pre-Nup for your Bridesmaids?!

While surfing the web this morning I came across this article and thought I had to post this to see what you ladies thought.....

Bridesmaid Pre-Nuptial Agreement. Yes, you read that right. If having to squeeze into a puffy, unflattering horror of a dress wasn't bad enough, now bridesmaids have another indignity to contend with. Some brides are so worried about the way their wedding party will look, they have a lawyer draw up a pre-nup that can include things like requiring that a bridesmaid not gain more than 7 pounds before the wedding, not consume too much alcohol at the reception, vow to take extra care of her skin and hair, and not to make any inappropriate advances toward male guests at the reception. [For a peek at a sample agreement, go to the American Bar Association Website).
Although brides who've used pre-nups were reluctant to go on the record for this story, several of them explained that the agreements were necessary to ensure that their day was perfect.

As I try and think about my favorite part of my wedding, it is difficult to think about just one moment because the whole day was really amazing. As we signed our marriage license, it really put it all in perspective for me, that I am no longer one, but Travis and I are starting a brand new life together. We have known each other for 13 years, and to be able to share the majority of our lives together is truly wonderful! I have been happily married for over a year to my best friend, so I would have to say the best part of my wedding was knowing and anticipating our life together as a married couple after we said our vows.

Once the dress has been chosen and we start the task of picking out a veil or a head piece the question that daunts most brides is "How are you going to wear your hair?" I have a lot of brides who struggle with what to do with their hair. There are a few things to consider when choosing your hairstyle.

The style of your dress: Dresses with embellishments on the straps may be covered if you wear your hair down.

The Weather: Weddings that take place during the hottest time of the summer may not allow your hair to hold in a really loose soft curl. So you may want to consider something more simple and that will work with lots of hairspray. The last thing you want on your wedding day is flat, straight hair. Unless of course that's the look you're going for. The Groom: I know that our grooms don't usually have a lot of say in what goes on in the planning of a wedding but many of them love their fiancee's hair a certain way. So ask him, you might be surprised and he might say I love how you look most when your hair is down. Awww.

There are a few things you just don't want to do for example:

Don't over do it with the accessories

I love a single flower in the hair but again don't go overboard. A whole bouquet of flowers is not a good look.

And remember bigger is not always better

You want to look like yourself on your wedding day. Simple and classic is always a safe bet.

Hey Everyone! I am back from my much needed Vacation. I feel relaxed and rested and ready to start 2009 with lots of energy so watch out! :-) Here are a few photos from our trip. With today being the day before Thanksgiving things around the store have been pretty quiet so I thought I would put up some ideas for a Thanksgiving Themed wedding. The possibilities are really endless but the fall really does lend itself to deep rich colors and an over all feeling of warmth. So Happy Thanksgiving everyone, I hope you enjoy all the yummy things tomorrow brings!

One Busy Week!

After a good 2 years I decided it was time to cut my hair. My goal in keeping it long was to donate it and on Monday I decided I was ready. So I went into Visions in Novi and had it cut off. I am donating my ponytail to the Pantene Beautiful Lengths campaign which provides real hair wigs to women with Cancer. I know many of you, like me, grew your hair out for your wedding and wouldn't it be great if we all could help another woman during a really tragic time in their lives? I feel like a new person and would encourage all of you to help out!

When thinking back to our June 28, 2008 wedding, there are definitely a couple moments that stand out in my mind. My absolute favorite part of the day was exchanging our vows. A nice girl named Gina gave me some great advice prior to our wedding. She reminded me to really take in that moment, so that's what I did. It was as if time stood still in those few minutes and I truly remember every second of it. I remember feeling like no one else was in the church except my husband, myself and God. Words can't explain how great this memory is to me.

Another part of the day that I loved was dinner. It was great for both of us to see all the people we care about so much, together in one room. Our guests came from Germany, several different states, and many parts of Michigan. Although there was not so much time to talk to everyone I felt a real closeness to all our guests while we drank, ate, and laughed together. The speeches were great, the flowers on the tables looked beautiful, the guitar player we had was wonderful, and you could see that everyone was having a genuinely good time. After all the hard work it takes to plan a wedding, it's nice to see everything come together and your guests enjoying themselves. BUT, of course, the best, most spectacular part of my day, was my dress! Thanks to everyone at Gina's, you all truly made me feel like a princess, I got so many compliments:-)))

My Mom picked up the book "I Love You Because You're You," out of the church library and read it aloud...all the bridesmaids, my grandma, my day, mom, myself....and the photographer and videographer all cried and cried. She's since bought me the book and I have it out in my house to remind me of that moment everytime I see it.

One of my favorite things about our wedding was the steel drum band. We eloped on the beach in St. Lucia so I had the steel drum band playing while I was walking down the “aisle”. They asked if we wanted traditional or island music – we did nothing traditional so I chose island music. We even got to have a first dance at our reception for two. It was so much fun dancing barefoot with my new husband to Bob Marley’s “Three Little Birds” , one of my favorite Bob Marley songs.

Kerry & Jay Are MARRIED!!!

Kerry and Jay were married this weekend and we had the privilege of being able to attend their wedding. The Reception was at The Monte Carlo in Shelby Township. It was a rainy day but the bride and groom were beaming!

Jamie is Married!

Sister Brides

Jeanne and Jaclyn are not only sisters they are both getting married. Jaclyn's wedding is in May and Jeanne's wedding is in August. They are my first sister brides! They are really close and are enjoying planning their weddings together. Planning two weddings is twice as much fun and it has to be nice to have someone who totally understands what you are going through.

Matt and I decided to see eachother first before any of our guests arrived for the ceremony. I was really nervous before seeing him but after I saw him for the first time, all my nerves were calmed. It was such a special time that we shared together- I cannot imagine sharing that with EVERYONE at our wedding. It was exciting, intimate, love-filled and a time for us to spend a few private moments together. After the ceremony, you are socializing with everyone and it turns into a busy, crazy time the rest of the evening. I highly recommend spending those sweet, private alone moments with your husband-to-be before the party really gets going!!!

Meet my new Bride Audrey!

Audrey came to us on recommendation from the Rochester area. She's getting married in August. She will be the first person to have a reception at The Fillmore Detroit (formerly known as The State Theatre). It is a beautiful and very unique location.

Audrey's dress is style 1858 by Casablanca Bridal in Ivory with a Champagne sash

We did some customizing on the dress so it will be one of a kind for her!

Audrey is a librarian and in lew of favors they have decided to donate books to schools in need. They will have the books at the reception for guests to sign and write a positive message in to the children (LOVE THIS!)

I wanted to give myself some time to think about an answer to your question and truly reflect on the entire process. Even after much thought, I simply keep going back to the same thing. The best part, honestly, was marrying my best friend!!! I know it's such a simple/basic answer, but let me give you a bit of history. Prior to meeting Brad, I was seriously the girl that was always so unlucky in love. I was pretty much the last of all my friends to get married - and was really on course to become living proof of the statement - "always a bridesmaid never a bride!" With Brad's love my days are happier and brighter!!! I never knew that love could be this easy - and I believe that it is because we truly are the perfect match. We have so much fun together, laugh everyday and get along so great. He truly is my best buddy - and being his wife is the best part of my entire life thus far!!!

Love Conquers All

I am sure if any of you have watched the news lately all you hear about is how our economy is going down the tubes, how the war is far from over, all the violence and misfortune people are having to endure. And I don't know about you but I can't stand it. I refuse to watch the news because there is nothing but negative things they report on. So I thought I need to find some positive things and celebrate them. That's when this idea came to me.
I get the privledge to work everyday with all of you! And there is nothing more positive and happy in life then being in love and planning your wedding. So I started asking some of my brides who are married now, "After all the craziness of planning your wedding what was your favorite part?" and the answers that started coming in just melted my heart and made me realize that no matter how stressed we are, and how terrible things seem at times, it's true Love does conquer all.
So I will be sharing the answers with you and if you want to send me your "favorite part" story I will post yours too, because I think we all could use a little heart warming story from time to time. If for nothing else I hope that this makes you think of the "little" blessings we all have in our everyday life.

Ashley is Married!

I had the privledge of getting to know Ashley when she was a bridesmaid in her cousin Tabitha's wedding and I was really happy when it was time to plan her wedding she came back to see us. She is such a sweet a beautiful girl and her family is a good time too! Ashley was a really laid back bride not too much phased her. Like the day she was here for a fitting and the power went out for 2 hours. That was an interesting night! Ashley and Colin were married on August 30th 2008 in Wixom and had their reception at 59 West in Highland. It was so fun working with you Ashley and thank you for sending the beautiful photos. Congrats!
